How a 3-year strategic plan drives leadership transition, legal excellence and client success
JFK Law LLP, is a leading law firm specializing in Aboriginal and Indigenous law, serving clients across Canada. Known for its deep expertise and commitment to justice, JFK Law is guided by its purpose to relentlessly pursue justice and self-determination for Indigenous peoples.
The Challenge
JFK Law is transitioning from a founding partner-led structure to a management committee of three, supported by a newly appointed COO. While experiencing significant growth, the firm recognizes the need for a strategic framework that aligns growth, resource planning and best-in class legal support to ensure long-term impacts for the communities and peoples they serve. External factors, such as upcoming Canadian federal elections, amplify the importance of strategic clarity and readiness.
Here’s a snapshot of JFK Law through the lens of Sidekick’s Entrepreneurial Design ™ Framework that looks at their 4Ps – Purpose, Passion, People and Profit:
The Solution
Sidekick engaged with JFK Law to create a comprehensive 3-Year Strategic Plan and a tactical annual plan. The process included a discovery phase with a SWOT analysis informed by internal stakeholder focus groups and external research and documentation. A full-day in-person workshop with all partners to define six strategic pillars, was followed by three tactical virtual workshops to develop actionable one-year plans. This approach emphasizes leadership alignment, partner ownership, and a balance between high-level vision and detailed execution.
“Their ability to synthesize and simplify complex concepts and ideas, have helped us define our long-term vision and goals. Sidekick Consulting's attention to detail and commitment to our success have been evident throughout our collaboration” Su Hutchinson, Chief Operating Officer
The Impact
The 3-Year Strategic Plan now equips JFK Law to focus on sustainable client and revenue growth, operational excellence, and team performance. Partners are now actively leading strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment and accountability. The process accelerated the COO's integration, enabling her to drive operational efficiency and long-term impact. With this plan, JFK Law lays a strong foundation to be a national leader in Aboriginal and Indigenous law, ready to navigate external challenges and deliver exceptional outcomes for clients.
